ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has noticed complaints from consumers regarding unauthorised activation of value-added services (VAS), resulting in unexpected balance deductions. According to a statement issued on Tuesday, consumers have been advised to remain cautious and regularly check their mobile balance and active subscriptions.

VAS typically include services such as caller tunes (ring back tones), daily SMS or internet bundles, missed call alerts, mobile games, horoscope updates, quiz services, infotainment alerts and other subscription-based content services.

"Please note that no VAS can be activated without your clear consent," stated PTA.

Activation requires confirmation through a One-Time Password (OTP) and/or dialling of a specific USSD code. If a consumer has not shared an OTP or dialled any code, the service should not be active. Any such activation may be unauthorised.
